Spanish Cows of Florida
In sharing my paintings of the wild cattle I hope that all of those who see them can understand the emotions that these animals bring forward in me. Ancestors of these noble animals were loaded on ships five centuries ago from southern Spain. They survived the ocean crossing and were a part of the various settlements in the new world. Because they are hearty Spanish stock, when some of the cattle escaped into the wilds they were able to survive without human intervention in the scrub lands of central Florida. The breed remains gentle and giving and are a living testament to the spirit of Andalucía.
